Educational Programming

Throughout the year, the Alex plays host to a variety of arts-based educational programming. These programs reach a collective 30,000 children and families per year. Past programs have included artists from companies such as Paul Taylor Dance Company, Pilobolus TOO, American Repertory Dance Company, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Media City Ballet.

    ATAFY has been presenting professional, curriculum-related theater for children of all ages in over 400 theaters across the country, performing for over 1.4 million students annually. Some recent presentations have been A Christmas Carol, Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, Tom Sawyer and The Wizard of Oz for nearly 5,000 students a year from Glendale and all over Los Angeles. Each of ATAFY's musical productions captures the spirit of timeless classics and brings literature and history to life while simultaneously providing children the opportunity to experience the magic of live theater.

  • Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra's Family Concert Series
    LACO's family concert series opens the door for kids to enjoy this magical sound world now and for the rest of their lives. Kids get to bang, pluck, bow and blow on real instruments at our popular Instrument Petting Zoo and enjoy fun-filled pre-concert activities, themed around the music, with Kidspace Children's Museum and our concert partners. LACO's short programs are designed to introduce kids to the wonder of classical music. Each concert includes an opportunity for young ones to ask questions of the musicians.

  • Shakespearience

  • Shakespearience
    Theatrical Education Group's Shakespearience. This brilliantly imaginative educational program that is designed to engage students from the elementary through high school with the works of William Shakespeare. Shakespearience is play within a play, integrating and melding scenes from classics as Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and A Midsummer Night's Dream into a single cohesive play. Since coming to the Alex in 2003, Shakespearience has brought more than 40,000 students to the Alex Theatre.

  • Taline and Friends
    Taline and Friends, an annual Christmas show starring Armenian children's performer Taline in a holiday-themed production that aims to both entertain and educate children. The Taline & Friends 2007 Fall/Christmas Tour included 19 concerts in 13 Armenian communities throughout the USA, Canada & Europe.
